Okay, I know everyone with a blog is posting gratitude articles this month, this week specifically, but this one’s not going to be too very cliché. Yeah, yeah, yeah…you know I’m grateful for my family, for being able to do what I love, for sunsets and sunrises. Seriously. I’m not making light of any of that. But everyone else is talking about it, so today I’m looking for other things to be thankful for.

My actual bookcases aren’t this organized, but the chalkboard sentiment is too true!

And, call me a geek, everyone else does, but right this second, I’m grateful for an out of control TBR list. There have been times when I’ve looked at the physical books on my shelf, scrolled through my Audible library, then fired up my Kindle to look at the virtual shelf there, and been overwhelmed by all the unread content on all three. You know the feeling—it’s similar to being drawn and quartered. Torn in numerous directions, you want to read this, but this one sounds good too. Dang. They all sound good. That’s why they’re on your list. But for someone who doesn’t watch too much television and who lives in the Idaho/Wyoming area (therefore, the cold weather has currently driven us all indoors) having such an abundance of choices for leisure time entertainment is a God-blessing. What is the saying? An embarrassment of riches. Yes, my TBR is embarrassingly long and barely manageable, but right now I love that my next good read is already at my disposal.

An accurate depiction of the virtual TBR on my Audible and Kindle.

Recently I picked up a book that’s been on the shelf for almost a decade: Lori Foster’s When You Dare. I got it somewhere around 2011 or 2012, slid it on the shelf in my office, and proceeded to read other things. It’s not the only book that has met that particular fate. Not in my TBR, and probably not in yours. However, I finally cracked it open a few weeks ago and discovered I’d had a delightful gem sitting there waiting to be found. I can’t believe I didn’t read it before now! Still, everything happens at the perfect time, so I guess part of the reason I so loved this book is that I read it at the exact right time. I just dropped a review of it on Goodreads, if you’re curious to know more and are inclined to add another title to your personal TBR list. Five stars says it’s worth the guilt and shame (which, face it, we all ignore anyway) of increasing your to-be-reads yet again, but I suggest you don’t put this one off. A long holiday week is coming, and you’ll likely plow through it quicker than I did. Other things from my gratitude list got in the way of me reading it in one sitting, ie: family, my beloved work, and more than a few sunrises, though only one or two sunsets.

And, until next time, know that I’m not just saying this, but I’m grateful for you, too. You’re the best part of all the writing I do. 😉

XOXO–M
